Frank Zappa was an American composer. He was also a singer and songwriter. His skills in playing electric guitar were amazing. He also directed some films and produced records. His career was 30 years long and in that time he wrote rock, jazz and instrumental music. Zappa released more than 60 albums as a solo artist and together with the band called "The Mothers of Invention".  

He started playing music and writing songs very early in his teen years. First, he wrote some classical music in high school. He also played drums in blues bands. Later he decided to switch to electric guitar. He taught himself to compose and play music. It is impossible to find the exact category for his music. He had many different influences from different music styles. His first album was in 1966 together with The Mothers of Invention. The album was called "Freak Out!" It was a combination of different songs in a conventional rock and roll format. There were many improvisations and sounds made in studio. His later albums also had the same experimental approach to the music. He mixed different styles, such as rock, jazz and classical in his music. He wrote his own lyrics for all of his songs. The lyrics were often humorous. These lyrics reflected his view on some of the social and political movements and structures. He criticized organized religion and mainstream education. He was for the freedom of speech and self education. He was always against the censorship.

We can say that Zappa was a very productive and efficient artist. The critics had very good response to his music. There were many of his albums that were considered essential in jazz and rock history. Many people think that he is one of the most original guitarists and composers of his time. Many of the other musicians and composers were influenced by Zappa. His commercial success was amazing. He did a good career in Europe. He was an independent artist.

The first album of Frank Zappa was the second rock double album ever released. It was a mixture of R&B, doo-wop and some experimental sound collages. It reflected the subculture of Los Angeles at that time. He was not satisfied with this album. Freak Out album established Zappa as a new voice in rock music. His sound was raw. But all of his arrangements were very sophisticated. He recorded his album in studio. There were some musicians that were shocked to read the notes and charts with Zappa conducting them. The reason for this was that it was not a standard practice when recording rock music. The lyrics were about non-conformity. There was some of the rebel spirit in these lyrics. Zappa expressed his ideas in his own way. He provided fresh and original music that was highly appreciated by the public.

Frank Zappa's music is still popular nowadays. People like his style and his high guitar playing skills. Zappa remains inspiration for many modern musicians and composers. He was surely a genius and a high talented musician.
